POSITION SUMMARY
The Eastern WA Regional Archivist reports to the State Archivist and is a member of the Division of Archives management team. He or she is responsible for implementing policy, managing budget, developing business plans, monitoring overall performance, and the delivery of archives and records management services to local government agencies within an area designated by the State Archivist.

The Eastern WA Regional Archivist participates in the management of division business. This includes the planning, development, and implementation of the Division of Archives and Records Management policies, legislative initiatives, budgets, and programs to ensure the division's services meet the mandates of law, administrative rule, standards of best practice, as well as the needs of client agencies and the public.

The Eastern WA Regional Archivist is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a full service stand alone archival facility(ies) situated by inter-agency agreements with a host university(ies) and/or other agencies within the region. The position represents the Division of Archives and Records Management's interests and obligations as described in agreements with the host university, and with client agencies, researchers, and customers.

The Eastern WA Regional Archivist directs operations to ensure staff planning and performance result in the proper collection, preservation, and public research of archival records from the designated regional area. The Eastern WA Regional Archivist promotes best records management practices for client agencies in the regional area through distribution and explanation of records schedules and State Archives publications, onsite consultation, and training. The Eastern WA Regional Archivist facilitates the professional development of staff and the success of programs they supervise.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• One of the following criteria must be met:
o Master’s Degree involving major study in archives and records management, history, public administration, or related field with coursework related to archives and records management principles OR
o A combination of higher education and archival work experience including electronic records management, accessioning, disposition, arrangement and description
• Valid Washington driver’s License or the ability to obtain upon employment
• Five years of full-time (40 hours per week) experience in the functional operations of an archives including accessioning, disposition, arrangement and description of records, and records management including storage systems
• Five years of full-time (40 hours per week) experience using cataloging, archives, or records management software
• Five years of full-time (40 hours per week) experience using scanning software and tools
• Five years of full-time (40 hours per week) management or supervisor experience including experience performing the following tasks: interviewing, hiring, assigning and directing work, and evaluating staff
• Five years of full-time (40 hours per week) experience using standard office software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite
• Two years of full-time (40 hours per week) experience with electronic records

Background investigations are required due to the nature and security requirements of the job. Applicants will be required to sign releases of information. Background investigations are part of the pre-employment selection process and are not a commitment to employment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• One year of full-time (40 hours per week) experience in facilities management including arranging for building services (janitorial, telephone, repairs, utilities) and managing office space requirements (furniture, equipment, supplies)
• Certified Archivist or Certified Records Manager
• Active in professional archival and historical organizations

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• The successful candidate for this position who meets all job expectations will be employed at a regional area for at least five (5) consecutive years. The Washington State Archives reserves the right to reassign the Eastern WA Regional Archivist to another statewide location anytime after the five (5) year period. A minimum of 180 days notice will be given for the employee to plan and relocate. The Eastern WA Regional Archivist will have the right to move to another location in the system prior to the five year minimum with approval of the State Archivist.
• The customary hours of work are between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, however, after-hours and weekend work will be expected during emergencies and when necessary to meet division goals and objectives.
• Frequent, statewide, year-round travel is required of this position.

COMPENSATION
$4453 - $5789 per month, depending on qualifications.
